Epistemic Arrogance

I’m fascinated by our reluctance to admit what we don’t know. The Japanese are finding it hard to admit they don’t know how to put out a nuclear fire, BP found it impossible to admit that while they knew how to drill an oil well a mile deep they didn’t know how to stop it from spewing oil once it was broken. Nassim Taleb put it this way “we forget about unpredictability  when it comes to our turn to predict”
